 Research supports that there are long term negative effects of chronic OM associated with mild/moderate conductive hearing loss within the “critical period”.  In view of the important information research has made available in this regard; the fact that inadequate auditory input causes deleterious effects cannot and should not be minimized. In order to forestall the adverse sequelae, every child who exhibits hearing loss should have prudent, effective intervention. Written in easy to understand terms, this curriculum is packed with the facts about chronic otitis media with mild to moderate conductive hearing loss during the critical years (birth to three) and the long term negative effects associated with this insidious disease. In view of the important information research has made available to us in this regard; the fact that inadequate auditory input causes deleterious effects cannot and should not be minimized. This curriculum is a Power Point based presentation, designed to be used with The Wonder Ears –or- Why Your Kid won’t go to Harvard participant workbook and The Wonder Ears Parent Education CD, offers the professional a forum for community outreach. This program will empower parents with knowledge in order that they may be informed participants in their child’s medical and educational decisions.

The Power Point based curriculum was designed for both the extrinsic and intrinsic adult learner. In addition, the facilitator will find suggested uses for the TWE™ Parent Education Program CD throughout the program. The use of the suggested video and audio examples is designed to enhance the visual/auditory encoding of the participants.
